Helpful Advice from Bill Myers

Until last year, the keywords you used in the meta tags of your web site were important. But these days, the actual content of the site, including words used in headlines and articles are far more important than the keywords used in the meta tags.

In fact, Google and most other search engines ignore the meta tags for keywords and site description, and rely solely on site content.

With that in mind, you'll want to focus on writing headlines and articles that will appeal to your target audience.

And you'll want to update your site often - as the more often you add new pages, the higher you'll get in the google results.

But headlines and article content also need to be supplemented by inbound links from existing sites, as well as visits from people who are active in facebook and other social networks.

Google changed their search results algorithm this past month, so any books or videos you find on Search Engine Optimization are probably already out of date.

To answer your original questions . . .

1. You can use your competitor's name in articles and headlines, as long as the information presented is factual and isn't designed to liable the competitor.

2. Best way to promote any site is to make the people most likely to visit the site aware that it exists. Do this by writing compelling content, and using forums and social media to link to articles on the site that would be of interest to your target market.
